Bridgestone’s community in the spotlight: Kinga Tanajewska

In light of International Women’s Day on Monday, 8 March, we would like to put our female advocates in the spotlight. Their stories and adventures continue to inspire not only us, but all motorcycle enthusiasts, every day. Curious about biker girl & Adventure seeker Kinga Tanajewska? Get to know her in the interview below.

Hi Kinga! Could you quickly introduce yourself to our readers?

Of course! My name is Kinga Tanajewska. I am the author of the blog ‘OnHerBike’, about a girl on a motorcycle discovering all kinds of places. Since April 2017 I have been traveling around the world. I used to live in Australia but then traveled through Asia, Europe and now I am in Africa. I have a background as a civil engineer, but for nearly 4 years now I am just a nomad. This is my life now. And I love it.

Which Bridgestone tyres are on your bike & which one are your favourite motorcycle tyres?

I am not saying this because Bridgestone is sponsoring me, but because I mean it: of all the tyres I ever used my all-time favorites are the Bridgestone Battlax AdventureCross AX41, both on and off road. I have been using Battlax since the beginning of my African journey. That’s nearly 2 years ago. During my travel I come across long stretches of roads that are paved but in terrible shape. Yet, these tyres have never failed me. For me it is also important to have this type of soft compound tyres like the AdventureCross because they have great grip on wet roads. That means I don’t have to worry about crashing when riding through bad weather. Since I ride literally everywhere, off road performance is key as well. Sand, rocks, mud, you name it, I’ve been there. These tyres offer great grip off road as well, allowing me to go anywhere without a worry.

As a motorcycle traveler, you must have been in all sorts of places. What are your favourite areas to ride?

My journey is a continuous trip into the unknown. But the countries Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Iran take the crown. I wish I’d get a chance to go back and spend more time there. For Europe, I also love the Balkans because they are a bit more relaxed than the rest of continent when it comes to off road riding.
It is difficult to choose, really. Now I’m in Africa and it is absolutely magical. The most unique country here must be Ethiopia. That is because of the culture, the incredible scenery. When you travel through Ethiopia, every other 100 kilometers everything changes: the way people are dressed, the language, the way people build their houses, … The whole culture. That’s what makes Ethiopia so special.

Sounds amazing! A must visit. But how has Corona influenced your motorcycle adventures?

Corona changed my plans. From March until November 2020, I was in Europe. But now I am back in Africa and I have to say it feels very different now. I am travelling all by myself and I see basically no other travellers. Before Corona, I was also travelling solo, but I never felt lonely. Now I am travelling, and I really feel like I am here all by myself. But don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. There is the sun and a beautiful scenery. I can ride my bike and the hotels are open. I am free. The only thing I can’t do is socialize with other travellers. But that kind of forces you to meet the locals, which is definitely a good thing.

Do you have any future plans and dreams? How do our Bridgestone motorcycle tyres fit into this story?

That is a tough question. Because the way I look at it I am already living my dream. I would have never thought travelling like this, disappearing into the unknown for such a long time, could be possible for me. But here I am. So, I guess my biggest dream now is to stay healthy, to not die on the road and to not get hurt. And to see as much as possible, of course. I still have the half of the African continent to see and there are so many places yet to be discovered, but I will get there eventually.

What is something unique that you bring to your role as an advocate and role model?

This is also a hard one. It is always very rewarding when people write me to say I inspire them. That my Youtube videos inspire them to get out of their comfort zone and to go on a short solo trip, cross the country even inspire them to get a license, buy a motorcycle and start riding. People just turn their lives upside down, sell their house and dive into the unknown. Every time I hear and read those stories, it feels so nice that my little videos of a girl riding her motorcycle on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook was an inspiration.

What has been your favourite experience so far being part of the Bridgestone Moto Family?

Actually, to be honest, it has always been a dream of mine to have a tyre sponsor. I am so grateful for the support Bridgestone has given me so far. They have helped me to make my dreams come true. I ride a lot so I need new tyres often, and I can always count on Bridgestone to help me out. And as I have quite frankly tested almost every tyre there is on the market, I can honestly say that Bridgestone tyres are incredible.

Are there any encouraging words to close?

Live life to the fullest. Life is not a rehearsal; we only have one go. We need to enjoy it while we can.
